CANCER CARE AT HOME
Making a positive choice
Everyone’s experience with cancer is different, but we’re here to make yours as positive as possible. As the UK’s leading home cancer treatment provider, we’ve worked closely with clinicians, private medical insurers and patients, providing safe, high quality cancer therapy from the comfort and convenience of home for three decades. So you can feel confident that whatever your treatment journey, you’ll get the very best care.
Our aim is to help you return to a sense of normality as soon as possible, so you’ll have a great nursing team to support you every step of the way. They’ll look after all aspects of your home treatment, from bespoke medical care to help with your general wellbeing and counselling. So you’ll feel safe, comfortable, well informed and reassured by the care you’ll get from us from day one and until your treatment is finished.
A smooth start
Once your consultant has introduced you to Sciensus, and you have chosen to have your cancer treatment at home, we’re here to help guide you through the rest of the journey. In the first 1-3 days you’ll get a welcome call from our team who will talk you through what to expect in the coming days and weeks and schedule your initial nurse visits with you.
We make it easy
Our role is to work closely with everyone involved in your treatment – from your private medical insurer to your consultant and even your pharmacist – to make sure your treatment plan is carried out to your wishes and as planned. Your nurses will send regular real-time medical reports to your hospital consultant, who will have ultimate responsibility for your treatment at all times.
By your side
Throughout your treatment, you’ll have the one-to-one support of a specialist cancer nurse who’ll visit you at home and stay by your side during every treatment. For any concerns relating to issues other than your treatment, such as work, family or emotional wellbeing, your clinical nurse specialist can give you more information on the many support networks available to you.
WHAT YOU GET
The benefits of having cancer treatment at home
Cancer treatment can be an exhausting process. On top of having to travel regularly to and from hospitals, you may feel tired and experience other side effects from your treatment. Having chemotherapy at home means there’s no travel, no queues and no waiting, and you can lead as normal a life as possible.
Your immunity is weaker during treatment. So, it’s important you look after yourself and minimise your risk of cross infection from something like a cold or flu, as well as places where they’re prevalent, such as hospitals. Having your treatment at home means you can have greater control over your wellbeing.
During each treatment you’ll have a home visit from a specialist chemotherapy nurse, who’ll be there to give emotional and practical support. We know it’s reassuring to see a familiar face so, unless there’s a good reason, you’ll see the same nurse every time.
If you have any questions or concerns you can call our care bureau, which is a 24-hour telephone advice service for you and your loved ones. The service is operated by experienced nurses providing round-the-clock support.
Support of a clinical nurse specialist
Researchers found that having the support of a clinical nurse specialist was the biggest factor in providing a positive patient experience, which is why we make sure you have one straight away. Their role is to help you maximise your independence and quality of life, before, during and after your cancer treatment.
Access to a support network
There is a wide range of support services in your local area. Your nurse is there to help you arrange any services you might need and can help with everything from phone calls to filling out forms.
